The 4yo trotting mare Yankee Eyes who is owned in Crookwell by Kristin Cunningham and trained by Steven Lee of Laggan strung together a 4 race winning sequence when successful at Tabcorp Park Menangle on Tuesday afternoon the 10th January.
A chestnut mare by Yankee Paco out of Kristin’s former race mare Showmetheway, Yankee Eyes commenced her winning run at a Bulli meeting held at Menangle on the 5 December, 2011. This was followed with wins on the 20th and 27th of December before her latest success in the $5,500 C91.3 Trotters Handicap over the 2300m journey at Menangle.
Commencing brilliantly from the 30m handicap, Yankee Eyes worked her way around the field to take up the running after travelling 800m. With solid quarters of 31, 31.7 she had the field strung out in Indian file running down the back straight before a third quarter in 30.3. Turning for home the mare kicked on strongly in a final quarter of 28.9 to score an easy win over Our Solar Flare and Count Galleon
Trainer Steven Lee described the mare “no superstar but pretty handy” and has now earmarked feature races in Victoria including the Vic Bred Super Series valued at $50,000 and the Breeders Crown valued at $100,00.
Whilst Kristin and Steven look forward to Yankee Eyes continuing her brilliant form, her younger 2yo half sister by champion stallion Pegasus Spur is showing promise in her early workouts.

Harness Racing NSW initiated the Carnival of Cups racing event series in 2006 to increase participation and promote harness racing across NSW.
