Sunday harness racing at Goulburn

Sunday harness racing at Goulburn continues tomorrow afternoon, with club drawing together 7 interesting and very competitive races.

Trainers from Goulburn and the immediate surrounding districts looked well placed to take away the majority of races.

The racing action kicks off at 2.03pm with the Glen Mia ACT Saddlery Trotters Mobile and Mt Fairy trainer Grant Forrest has a strong hand yet again with Chateaubriant the pre-post favourite.

Chateaubriant was an easy winner of the trotters’ race last Sunday before winning again at Menangle on the Tuesday.

In tomorrow’s field, Chateaubriant is taking on the same opposition, and from barrier 6 looks an excellent chance to continue Grant’s great run of wins.

Hardest to beat is the Daniel Rowell trained and driven Oneoutofthesquare who finished second in last week’s race, with the Forrest stablemate Critical Advantage also worthy of strong consideration following his good win at Menangle on Tuesday.

Goulburn trainer Sam Hewitt will start Sporty Banyula in race 2, the Nutrien AG Solutions Goulburn Pace.

From gate 4, Sporty Banyula has the gate speed to quickly cross and lead and should he do so will take a power of beating on his strong last start second at Goulburn.

On that occasion, Sporty Banyula was driven by father David and showed excellent gate before getting caught outside the leader. Sporty Banyula fought on very strongly when beaten 2.4 metres by Ice Blaster who charged home from back in the field.

In a similar field tomorrow, Sporty Banyula appeals as one of the better bets of the day.  The hardest to beat being Red Trix for Scott Hewitt.

Amy Day who is on the driving sidelines following a nasty fall at Canberra trials last month will start the in-form Illawong Astro in race 3, the Benstud Standardbreds NSW Pace.

Illawong Astro was a super second behind Debutante Party last week, and in what is an overall weaker field this week, looks a great chance.

To be driven by Amy’s father Neil, Illawong Astro has drawn gate 4 and is likely to settle in a midfield position.  Hardest to beat is the Canberra trained Dunrobbin for Robert Ryan.

In the last race of the day, the Goulburn Soldiers Club Pace, Debutante Party for Brad Hewitt is another strong chance for the number 4 gate runner.

The winner of its last two starts, Debutante Party looks to the have the pace to cross and lead with the hardest to beat being Boyd Writer for father David Hewitt.

Western Belle for cousin Todd Day has drawn gate 1, and if she gets to hold the back of Debutante Party could be a great show to run in the top 3 at big odds.

For all the latest information, the late mail, and race finishes, keep check of the Goulburn Paceway Facebook page throughout Monday.

In other news, financial members of the Goulburn Harness Racing Club should be aware there will be two Members Draw at tomorrow’s race meeting.  There will be a redraw of last week’s draw for $300.  If that drawn is not won, then the second draw will be for $350, unless of course it is won in which case the prize goes back to the start for the $100 value.

If your membership has lapsed, membership renewals will be taken up to race 5, just see Joan or Colleen where the race books are sold, and you too will be eligible for the prize if drawn out.
