The Goulburn Paceway is the venue for Sunday afternoon harness racing this new year weekend.

The Southern Tablelands club has drawn together an interesting and competitive 7 race card with the first race, the First National Real Estate Goulburn Trotters Mobile scheduled to commence proceedings at 1.44pm.

Local trainer Grant Forrest has three trotters engaged with Chateaubriant the most likely to continue the young trainer’s recent good form.

Forrest, who trains out of his Mt Fairy stables, has enjoyed a good run of success this season recording multiple wins with Orlando Storm, and more recently Chateaubriant who has scored three Menangle wins during November and December.

On Sunday, Chateaubriant will be driven by Grant and comes out of gate 5.  Stablemates Critical Advantage and Eratigena have drawn in gates 1 and 2 respectively, but neither has been able to match Chateaubriant in recent races.

“He’ll be pretty hard to beat on Sunday” said Forrest, who credits the 5-year-old trotters improved form to a change in gear and a short freshen up.

“He had a bit of break and I changed his gear, and since then he has put it together”

“Previously he’d over race, even in track work, but now he’s much more settled and it shows in his race performances” Forrest added.

With Chateaubriant the top pick, hardest to beat include Critical Advantage and the KerryAnn Morris trained Gunner.

Leading Goulburn driver Brad Hewitt looks well placed to continue his winning form at Goulburn with a good set of drives.

Brad will take the reigns behind last start winner Notmuchuptop for local trainer Eddie Galea in race 2, the RSM Accountants Goulburn Pace.

Notmuchuptop had been racing consistently before producing a tough effort to win from outside the leader at Goulburn on the 20 December.

In a small field of six, Notmuchuptop has drawn nicely in gate 3.  “If he finds the top, he should prove hard to beat given how he went the other week,” said Brad.

Hewitt is also down to drive Modern Attitude for Grabben Gullen trainer Simon Locke in race 5, the Sun Solutions Goulburn Pace.

Modern Attitude was a last start second at Goulburn behind Miami Surf, and from gate 3 will be in the firing line for Sunday’s event.

For all the latest information, the late mail, and race finishes, keep check of the Goulburn Paceway Facebook page throughout Monday.

In other news, financial members of the Goulburn Harness Racing Club should be aware the Members Draw has jackpotted to $300.  If you are drawn out, and are on course at the time, then the prize is yours.

If your membership has lapsed, membership renewals will be taken up to race 5, just see Joan or Colleen where the race books are sold, and you too will be eligible for the prize if drawn out.

The club’s Annual General Meeting will be held on Thursday evening the 6th Janaury.  The meeting is scheduled to commence at 7.00pm in the Secretary’s office area at the Goulburn Paceway and all financial members are invited to attend.
