KS Black & Co ‘Carnival of Cups’ on Easter Sunday

March 15, 2013 By Goulburn Paceway

An outstanding afternoon of pacing action awaits race goers who attend the Easter Sunday meeting of the KS Black and Co ‘Carnival of Cups’ at the Goulburn Paceway. Entry into the course is only $5 for all adults with the gate takings being donated in full to the Goulburn
Base Hospital for the purchase of a Neoprobe Gamma Detection system; vital equipment used in breast cancer surgery.
On the day hospital staff will man the entrances dressed in pink operating theatre garb and those attending will be supporting a very worthy cause. Not only that, they’ll be entertained all afternoon with live singing, activities for children and some of the best harness racing
action available.

Headlining the 8 race card is the $30,000 Frank & Edna Day Goulburn Cup which has attracted the group 1 winning duo of Baby Bling and Mach Alert from the powerful McCarthy stable.

Luke McCarthy has won the last two editions of the Goulburn Cup with Washakie in 2011 and then last year behind Mach Wiper. In Sunday’s big event Baby Bling will be handled by father John McCarthy with Luke electing to drive Mach Alert.
Trained by Belinda McCarthy the pair looks set to fight out the finish after drawing well on the front row in barriers 4 and 5 respectively. The stable is also strongly represented in the support program, in particular the $15,000 Goulburn Sapling Stakes where Belinda puts the
finishing touches to the classy colts Bling It On and All Eyes On Us. With each having started 3 times for 2 wins and a second, they look set to dominate the event.

In the main support race of the day, the $18,000 Goulburn Soldiers Club Goulburn Rose, an outstanding field of up and coming horses has been assembled. The chances of a home town win rest with the David Hewitt trained Eclipser who has been in career best form this
preparation.

Eclipser’s task has been aided by a front row draw in barrier 7 (6 if the emergency is scratched), however he will come up against a very strong and even field. With arguably all but a couple having realistic winning chances, Eclipser is likely to start at good odds for his
many followers.

The last of the feature races is the $12,000 Goulburn Mulwaree City Sprint which sees the returned to Goulburn of the former 2yo track record holder Scandalman. The now 4yo is a star performer having won last season’s group 1 Victoria Derby and whilst this event sees him drop in class considerably, he has drawn barrier 12 and will have to face up to the highly promising McCarthy trained Waltzing With Cullen. Last start the 4yo bay horse was successful at Menangle over the 2300m journey in the brilliant mile rate of 1:55.7
To help punters find a winner or two leading Victorian race caller and form analyst Vic Rail has produced an in depth analysis of each race. His tips and guidance simplifies the selection process and the Goulburn Club wishes all those having a bet on the meeting the very best of
luck.
