The Sam Hewitt trained Honor Bender will look to break through tomorrow (7th May) for its first career win at Goulburn when it contests race 3 of the afternoon, the $5,999 Aspire Traffic Offender Course Pace.
A 3-year-old filly by super sire Captaintreacherous, Honor Bender has contested only 3 races to date and following a first up third, the filly has recorded two good second place finishes since.
At her last start, Honor Bender came from well back when second to Street Writer at Goulburn on the 23 April. “She will be much fitter for that run and is definitely my best chance for tomorrow,” said Hewitt.
With a team of 15 horses in work, Sam has been enjoying a good season with the stable recording its eighth win when Endless score at Goulburn recently. “I have a stable of young horses who will go through their grades so I am looking forward to the future,” said Hewitt.
Friday’s fixture has drawn together 8 interesting and even races with the first scheduled for 11.57am.
Local trainers are likely to prove hard to beat in the opening 3 races, however the visitors look to have the upper hand in the latter races.
The Wallacia based stable of Kerry and Dean McDowell seem to have the strongest hand floating a team of 10 to Goulburn including last start winner Major Obahama.
Contesting race 7, the $5,999 TAB Long May We Play Pace, Major Obahama has drawn gate 4 and comes into the event as a pre post $2.75 favourite.
At Goulburn on the 23 April, the Colin McDowell driven pacer circled the field 5 wide before going on to win by a half neck from Presidentialattack and Western Belle.
While the 5-year-old pacer is contesting a higher graded race on Friday, he comes into the event as the winner of his last 2 starts and appeals as one of the better bets of the day.
Gates to the Goulburn Paceway will be open from 11am and the club’s committee invites all harness fans to come out and experience the wonderful facilities of the Grace Millson Centre. Enjoy quality food and a wide range of cold alcoholic and soft drinks whilst watching all the racing action in comfort.
