An $18,000 purchase from the 2018 Australian Pacing Gold sale in Sydney, Rockin With Elvis started a $2.80 favourite and dominated proceedings in the $12,240 Goulburn Soldiers Club Sapling Stakes held Monday afternoon at the Goulburn Paceway.
Trained and driven by Brad Hewitt, the Rock N Roll Heaven gelding was selected by Brad at the APG sale, and rewarded his big group of owners with their second win from only 4 starts.
Starting from gate 3, Rockin With Elvis was taken to the front at the start and after withstanding a momentary challenge from Topzavski was allowed to dictate the pace from there on.
With the first half raced in a leisurely 62.8 seconds, Hewitt and Rockin With Elvis sprinted home in quarters of 28.9 and 27.6 to score an easy 9.4 metres win in a moderate 1:58.4 mile rate.
Second across the line was the Neil Day trained and driven Better Than Magic making it a Goulburn quinella finish. A further nose back in third place was the Riverina visitor Realnspectacular from the Terry Coelli stable.
The smart gelding will now be aimed at richer prizes with Hewitt indicating at the on-track presentation his next target as being the Breeders Challenge Series which commences next week in regional centres around the State.
Stable spokesman Jedd Naum added “He’s a very nice two year old who’s still learning what it’s all about; he should hopefully make a good three year old”
Following the Breeders Challenge Series, which concludes with $125,000 finals at Menangle on the 30 June, Rockin With Elvis may be targeted at the $50,000 APG Championships in July.
This season’s running of the Sapling Stakes also carried additional breeder bonuses. $500 to the managing breeder courtesy of Harness Breeders NSW and a $500 Breeding Certificate courtesy of Harness Racing NSW.
