Nifty Ronald from the Corey Parker stables at Murrumbateman steps out in race 6, the Download The TAB App Club Menangle Waratah Heat at the Goulburn Paceway on Monday afternoon.
A recent winner at Wagga Wagga in a good 1.54.6 mile rate, the 9 year old pacer followed that up with a solid third at Bathurst when he ran home strongly over the last 100 metres.
“He was good at Bathurst; it was a mud pit and he was held in. He needs to be out and running so I was happy how he finished it off” trainer Corey Parker noted.
“At Wagga he went really well, led and won in 1:54 something. Taylah thought he could have gone a lot quicker” added Parker.
With Monday’s capacity field being a very even event, Nifty Ronald will be looking to repeat the Wagga effort where he demonstrated the gate speed he will need to cross from gate 5.
The winner of 8 races, Nifty Ronald has scored 5 of those wins in the last 13 months and looks well placed in Monday’s race to improve on that record.
Hardest to beat is the Phil Willis trained Bently Bullet who has drawn nicely in gate 2. A consistent performer, Bently has been racing strongly at the Menangle mid-week meetings and should be a strong chance to finish top 3.
Recent newcomer to the Goulburn area, Annette (Kerry) Towers trains Explosive Bronski who has drawn the 1 gate. He is another consistent performer at Menangle who should appreciate the gate draw.
Race 5, the ASPIRE Traffic Offender Course Pace over 2240 metres is another open event with a number of realistic winning chances. The Sam Hewitt trained and driven Dat Lovely draws the 1 gate and looks a strong winning chance over the distance.
A last start winner at Young on the 13 January, Dat Lovely hasn’t missed a place in her last 4 starts, including a very strong showing at Penrith in late December when finishing second in a good 1:57.6 mile rate over the 2125 metres journey.
The Ex Horseist for Goulburn trainer Simon Locke was a very impressive winner at Bathurst on the 17 January. It brought up a treble of wins for the 5 year old gelding who came from last to win with something in hand.
King Corey from the Dennis Day stable was a strong trial winner recently on the Goulburn track. He has drawn gate 2 and should be at his top following 4 runs from a very long spell. He is a question mark over the distance but the good gate draw enhances his chances in Monday’s event.
Race 2, the Hollingworth Crane Hire Service Pace over 1710 metres is for the maiden pacers and the three unraced runners On Line Betty, Carbineer and Miki Be Good appeal as the hardest to beat.
By virtue of the barrier draw, On Line Betty is likely to get the run of the race. At her last trial at Goulburn, the three year old filly ran on well when placing second behind King Corey in a solid 1:57.7 mile rate.
The half sister to Im Bruce Almighty and Mighty Jolt will be driven by Brad Hewitt and is favoured over the Dennis Day trained Carbineer.
Carbineer has been trialing well winning at Goulburn in late December in a 1:59.6 mile rate, and then finishing a narrow second after leading to the well performed Argent Peak in a good 1:56.6 mile rate.
Carbineer has drawn wide in gate 7 and will be driven by Neil Day who is enjoying a tremendous start to the season with another training and winning double at Wagga Friday afternoon with the first starter My Bula Bus and Yum Cha.
Miki Be Good is a three year old gelding trained by Dean Atkinson at Bungonia and has drawn widest in gate 8. To be driven by Cameron Hart, Miki Be Good trialed at Menangle earlier this month finishing second to All Star Magician in a solid 1:55.2 mile.
Racing at Goulburn on Monday gets underway at 2.07pm with a solid 7 race card for punters.
