Bracken Warrior is looking to break through for his 1st Goulburn win
The 2023/24 Goulburn harness racing year commences this coming Monday afternoon with a strong and very interesting 8-race card.
Heralding what will be a huge season of racing for the Goulburn club, Monday’s first race is at 1.06pm, with the last at 5.25pm.
Harness racing at Goulburn will be monthly until April when the club finishes off its season with the ever-popular Hewitt Memorial Race Day on the 21st, before its massive Carnival of Cups meeting on Sunday 28 April.
Featuring a $60,000 cup, a $20,000 2YO Sapling Stakes and other great support races, the Carnival of Cups race day will be like never before at Goulburn. Entertainment by leading Australian performers, high class harness racing, and family activities set the scene for what is hoped will be an amazing afternoon of racing and entertainment for all.
In the meantime, Monday’s race card offers up some great contests including Race 6, the Seib Racing Club Menangle Waratah Series Heat.
Scheduled for 4.10pm, Murrumbateman trainer Corey Parker is hoping Bracken Warrior can break through. A placegetter at his last three starts, Bracken Warrior has drawn 7 and will be driven the very capable Taylah Osmond.
“He’s been racing very consistently and is rock hard fit,” said Parker.
In late August Bracken Warrior was a good second in a Waratah Series Heat at Bathurst behind The Real Rocketman.
He followed that effort with a strong finishing third in the final held at Menangle on the 9 September. Beaten 7.8 metres, Bracken Warrior came from last at the home turn making up many metres as the winner Ellas Reason recorded a 1:55.5 mile.
“Unfortunately, he keeps getting a long way back only to charge home” added Parker.
Hardest to beat is the Neil Day trained and driven Yum Cha who has drawn ideally in gate 1.
“I’m worried that if Bracken Warrior gets back and Neil is able to find the lead, then he will be hard to catch,” said Parker.
Yum Cha, a 6yo Heston Blue Chip gelding has been off the scene since September last year, however has been readied for Monday’s event with a solid Goulburn trial win.
Race 7 of the afternoon, The TAB App Pace features any number of strong chances with not even one horse being out of contention.
In what appears to be a very intriguing race, it’s the David Waite trained Magic Matteo who may stand out. A winner at 3 of his last 5 starts, Magic Matteo was a strong 1:53.5 winner at Menangle on the 5 September.
Hardest to beat may be Neil Day’s Dance Addition and Crazy Shippo who draws the coveted number 1 gate.
Members and fans are invited to get trackside for what will be a very good racing meeting, and to enjoy the wonderful facilities of the Grace Millsom Centre.
The club continues with its members bonuses and encourages all to renew their membership with the ladies selling race books to be eligible for the Members Draw which commences at $100, and the Members’ $50 All-Up. Members are reminded they must register their attendance at the track to give themselves a chance at one of the ten $50 all-up bets on the last 4 races.
