Flying Banyula & Brad Hewitt combined to win at Goulburn
A strong 9 race program has been drawn together for Monday afternoon’s Goulburn harness racing fixture at the Goulburn Paceway.
The action gets underway with the Top Water Carters Trotters Mobile at 12.55pm and concludes with the Goulburn Soldiers Club Pace at 6.00pm.
The afternoon meeting will see the return to racing of the smart Skye Mary Mac from the Kerry and Dean McDowell stable.
A three-year-old filly, Skye Mary Mac contests race 6 the RSM Accountants Goulburn Pace where she has drawn gate 6. The filly kicked off her racing career scoring in a heat of the Bathurst Gold Tiara last year before finishing sixth in the $110,000 final.
Her return to racing has been prepped through two good trials at Menangle and Penrith where she finished second and first respectively, and brings a touch of class to Monday’s race meeting.
Hardest to beat is the locally trained Electra Girl. The three-year-old filly has drawn gate 1 and is trained locally by Simon Locke and will be driven by Brad Hewitt.
She was a last start second at Canberra behind the impressive Bainsbridge who scored a runaway win in a very smart 1:56.6 mile rate.
From gate 1 Electra Girl looks to have a race fitness advantage over the McDowell filly and will take a power of beating
Simon Locke will also start Flying Banyula in race 8, the Download The TAB App Today Pace.
The 8-year-old mare is a last start winner at Canberra and looks well placed to make it two on end. To be driven by Brad Hewitt, the pair are looking to continue their good partnership having also won at Goulburn in December.
Hardest to beat is the Mitchell Atkinson trained R N R Beach who will be driven by Harrison Ross. Drawn in gate 2, the Marulan based pacer brings consistent from into Monday’s race and appeals as a strong top 2 finisher.
Race 7, the Crust Gourmet Pizza Goulburn pace, will see the appearance of the well performed Chiseled.
Trained by Jason Hewitt, Chiseled was the winner of the $30,000 2YO NSW Breeders Challenge Western Final at Wagga in December, before resuming with a close up fourth in the Group 3 $50,000 3YO Simpson Memorial at Menangle.
The pacer was a last start fourth at Menangle and will appreciate the big drop of class in Monday’s event. Hardest to beat is the Darren Hancock trained mare Hellofalass.
One interesting element of Monday’s race meeting is the contest between mother and daughter in race 4, the HRNSW Guaranteed Ladyship Pace.
Trained by Graham Betts of Bathurst, Pom Pay, a 10-year-old Four Starzzz Shark mare will match strides with her 4-year-old daughter Onya Sonya.
As the winner of 16 races, Pom Pay brings consistent recent form into the race and from barrier 2 will be a strong chance to finish in the top 4 places. Daughter Onya Sonya has drawn alongside in gate 3 but on recent form mum does look to have the wood on her.
