Feel The Burn at Goulburn Paceway

December 22, 2019 By Goulburn Paceway Leave a Comment

Feel The Burn following recent win at the Goulburn Paceway

Harness racing at the Goulburn Paceway is back on this Monday afternoon.  It will be the first of 4 great summer racing programs the Goulburn club will host over the Christmas and New Year holiday period.  Culminating with Hewitt Memorial day on the 12th January, and the Goulburn Carnival of Cups race day the next Sunday, there will be much outstanding racing action on offer for harness racing fans.

Eight races have been scheduled for Monday with the program kicking off at 1.07pm.  In what is a very interesting race card, local trainers look well placed to win their fair share.

Race 7, the Goulburn Soldiers Club Pace is the main race of the afternoon, and Exeter trainer James Rattray will start 5yo mare Feel The Burn.

A two time winner at the Goulburn Paceway track, Feel The Burn has been racing in the better class mares’ races at Menangle.  Recently she won in a fast 1:52 mile coming from back in the field.

In Monday’s race, Feel The Burn has drawn gate 3 and will appreciate the drop in grade.  “She’s been going well in the strong mares’ race at Menangle” said James.  Rattray is keen on the mare’s chances in Monday’s event, stating “she won in 52 at Menangle and she is well drawn in 3; she should go really well”

Hardest for the mare to beat is the unknown New Zealand import Gimmefiveminutesmore from the Jacqueline Graham stable at Cranebrook.  The winner of 6 from 20 starts in New Zealand, the 5yo gelding was a trial winner at Penrith recently when rating a 1:59.0

The David and Brad Hewitt stable appeal for an early double with Stone The Eagle in race 1, the Randwick Equine 3YO Pace a strong chance to record his first win at his third race start.  Last start the son of Fly Like An Eagle finished a solid third in a stronger class Evolution Series heat at Wagga Wagga.

Coming out of gate 2, Stone the Eagle looks the likely leader with the Amy Day trained and driven Irvine the hardest to beat.

In race 3, the Tab Odds & Evens Pace, Brad Hewitt trains and drives Sweet Sangria who was an impressive winner at Bathurst this past Wednesday night.  Leading from start to finish, Sweet Sangria recorded a fast 1:55.5 mile rate.

In Monday’s race the mare will start from gate 7 but looks to have the pace to cross the field should Hewitt decide to.

Hardest to beat are the Dennis Day trained Strong Response and the Sam Hewitt trained Fastnflashy.

Club members are reminded of the members draw which starts at $100 and jackpots $50 each time it is not won.  The prize for Monday’s race meeting is $100.  Club volunteers also host raffles and second chance draws for those holding losing tickets.

Gates to the Goulburn Paceway will be open from 12 noon and the club’s committee invites all harness fans to come out and experience the wonderful facilities of the Grace Millson Centre.  Enjoy quality food and a wide range of cold alcoholic and soft drinks whilst watching all the racing action in comfort.

Harness racing at the Goulburn Paceway is brought to fans by the kind support of Tabcorp, Goulburn Soldiers Club, Hollingworth Crane Hire Service, Randwick Equine Centre, Southern Highlands Equine Centre, Sun Solutions Goulburn, Benstud, RSM Accountants, and a host of smaller businesses including Top Water Carters Crookwell, First National Real Estate Goulburn, Goulburn Livestock Transport, Landmark Southern Livestock Agenices , J A Communications, Crust Gourmet Pizza, Glen Mia ACT Saddlery, and ASPIRE.
