Classy pacer Arma The Gun from the Brad Hewitt stable will be out to make amends for his last start defeat when he contests race seven, the Goulburn Soldiers Club Pace this afternoon at the Goulburn Paceway.
At his last start Arma The Gun was used early to cross from the wide gate, and in a fast run affair where he made all the running was found wanting in the final quarter as Redbelly Jack moved off his back to score a runaway win in a very fast 1:53.9 mile rate.
In today’s event Arma The Gun has come up with gate 1, and in what appeals as a more suitable distance will have his chance to lead throughout over the 2240 metre trip. Stanley Ross Robyn from the David Hewitt stable finished strongly to race past Arma The Gun for second place last Monday and he once again looks the hardest to beat.
With other strong chances including the Dennis Picker trained Stitched Up and the Sydney visitors Left Tennant and Blackbird Power, the final race of the day looks one of the most interesting on an afternoon of great racing.
In other races, Bigga based trainer Dennis Picker has a big team of 11 engaged and he looks to have solid winning chances with Fastestgirlintown and Elle Yeah.
In race three, the TAB.COM.AU pace, Fastestgirlintown has drawn gate 3 from where she should find the front with little trouble. As a very well performed two year old, the mare is looking to bounce back to the form that saw her win a Graeme Board & Co Final before her very good second in the Group 1 Gold Tiara final at Bathurst during 2016.
In race 6, the First National Real Estate Goulburn pace, the Picker trained Elle Yeah appeals as a strong chance following three good efforts since a spell. The 5 year old mare last won when taking out the Group 1 Breeders Challenge 4 year old mares final at Menangle in July. Recording a fast 1:52.2 on that occasion, the mare looks to be peaking at the right time and will be very hard to hold out this afternoon.
Racing today is scheduled to commence at 1.44 pm and with weather forecasts indicating another warm afternoon, the club’s committee invites all harness fans to come out and experience the wonderful air conditioned facilities of the Grace Millson Centre. Enjoy quality food and a wide range of cold alcoholic and soft drinks whilst watching all the racing action in comfort.
