Ready for a start at Goulburn
An 8-race program this Monday afternoon kicks off a big month of harness racing at the Goulburn Paceway during April.
With the popular Hewitt Memorial Race Day scheduled for Sunday the 23rd, and Goulburn’s premier meeting, the Carnival of Cups race day on Sunday 30th April, Monday’s program is an appetizer for what awaits harness racing fans.
Berkshire Park trainer Wayne Dimech makes the trip to Goulburn and will start 3yo gelding Merrywood Paul in race 6, the RSM Accountants Goulburn Pace.
The winner of 3 from 17 starts, Merrywood Paul comes into Monday’s event having won his last two starts at Penrith and Bankstown and looks very well placed to make it three on the trot.
At Penrith on the 16 March Merrywood Paul led from gate 4 and recorded a smart 1:57.5 mile rate beating War Club. Then at Bankstown last Monday he led yet again beating Hellofalass in a good 1:58.3 mile rate.
In Monday’s event the pacer has drawn gate 4 and will be driven by regular driver Will Rixon. Hardest to beat may be the Elizabeth Heath trained Rockin Lou who comes out of the gate 1.
The 4yo mare has been racing consistently finishing second in three of her last 3 starts.
In what looks to be a difficult program for the local trainers the Dennis Day trained Philandering Chef contests the eighth of the day, the Goulburn Soldiers Club Pace.
He is a last start winner at Menangle in 1:53.8 and is quite well drawn in gate 3 but will find strong opposition from the very well performed Im Presi Belle from the Peter Rixon stable.
Members and fans are invited to get trackside for what will be a very good racing meeting, and to enjoy the wonderful facilities of the Grace Millsom Centre.
We also remind members of the bonuses available, including the Members Draw which has jackpotted to $200, and the Members’ $50 All-Up. Members must register their attendance at the track to give themselves a chance at one of the ten $50 all-up bets on the last 4 races.
